DARCEY BUSSELL SWITCHES ON REGENT STREET’S DISAPPOINTING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Famous ballet dancer Darcey Bussell turned on Regent Street Christmas lights.
Thousands of people meet in Central London for the traditional lights switch on.
Lots of tourists as well as Londoners came excited for the event, “this is amazing!” said an American. The street got closed for traffic for 12 to 7pm evening of festivities. Different live performance took place before and after the lighting on.
This year the set up of lights was composed of 46,000 LEDs according to the Evening Standard and claimed to be the most technically advance yet. However, most people were disappointed after the main show, “I’ve got more lights in my Christmas tree,” wrote one twitter user.

The event took a more emotional dimension after terrorists’ attacks in Paris. This year the event began with a minute’s silent in memory of the victims. “This proves to people that we do not fear anything, we come out and have normal lives,” said Robert Ledsma from the US. “It is kind of magical when something terrible happens in any part of the world and we just come together” said Chloe from London.

The switch on of the lights also marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. The purpose of the event was to “enjoy a free traffic day of shopping and entertainment” said Regent Street’s website. Indeed, these kinds of events are very profitable for nearby shops, “it is going to be amazing for every company on the street, and in London, to have this kind of events,” affirmed an Apple’s staff member. Even though days before Christmas are the most active, now it is going to be “more busy” stated an H&M worker.
