R.I.P. Bretagne… The Last Surviving 9/11 Rescue Dog

She was a hero and in the end, she was honored like one…

Bretagne (pronounced, “Brittany”), was the last surviving rescue dog from the 9–11 attacks, was died this Monday.

Firefighters at the Cy-Fair Fire Department in Harris County, Texas, stood lining the streets in honor of the dog as she walked into the vets office to be euthanized, later the body was covered with an American flag as those who worked alongside Bretagne stood to the sidelines crying.

Bretagne’s body, after 16 years of living had taken their toll and it was time to end her pain.
